​Hello! I'm Lilian the founder of Merry Makewell Designs. I'm a creative soul from Cardiff, Wales with a love of pattern design for paper and fabric.
My journey to art and design has been an unusual one. I took the scientific route at school and went on to study Engineering at University. I then worked as an engineer for 10 years.
I have always enjoyed making things, but it wasn't until my 20s that making became a regular part of my life when I took up dressmaking. Crochet, hand embroidery, cardmaking and paper crafts followed. I also ran a natural skincare business for several years, where I found that I really enjoyed designing the packaging- my first foray into the world of graphic design.
It was after I started cardmaking that I discovered surface pattern design and I created my very first digital paper collection! Thus my career as a Surface Pattern Designer was born.
My work is very much an accumulation of my life experiences; my Nigerian heritage, my engineering background and my love of flowers and nature. I work mostly in the digital space with vector illustrations featuring bold colours, geometric patterns and botanical motifs as recurring themes.
